Indexing & Archiving
The Journal of Clinical Advances in Dentistry (JCAD) is committed to ensuring that published articles are widely discoverable, permanently accessible, and securely archived. We follow international best practices for indexing and digital preservation to maximize visibility and safeguard scholarly content for future generations.
Indexing
Our long-term goal is to be indexed in all leading abstracting and indexing databases. This guarantees that our authors’ research is widely disseminated and easily discoverable. Currently, JCAD is working toward inclusion in the following indexing services:
- Google Scholar
- CrossRef (DOI assignment for all published articles)
- Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
- Index Copernicus
- PubMed Central (targeted future inclusion)
- Scopus and Web of Science (long-term objective)
Archiving
Digital preservation ensures that scholarly content remains available even in cases of technological or organizational changes. JCAD implements multiple archiving strategies:
- Portico: Long-term digital preservation and perpetual access service.
- LOCKSS: Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe – a distributed archiving system that ensures redundancy and preservation.
- PKP Preservation Network (PN): Ensures open-access journals using OJS are preserved for long-term availability.
- Institutional Repositories: Authors are encouraged to self-archive their accepted manuscripts in institutional and subject repositories.
Metadata Standards
To support discoverability, all articles are published with structured metadata, including DOIs, ORCID author identifiers, and machine-readable tags. Metadata is provided in compliance with OAI-PMH protocols to enable indexing by libraries, aggregators, and discovery services.
Open Access and Archiving Policy
All content published by JCAD is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License, which permits free distribution, reproduction, and reuse with proper attribution. This ensures that the research remains available to the widest possible audience.
Archival Redundancy
JCAD employs multiple archiving strategies to ensure redundancy and reliability. Content is mirrored across multiple servers and repositories, reducing the risk of data loss.
Indexing Workflow
The following workflow is implemented to maximize indexing:
Step | Description |
---|---|
DOI Assignment | Every article is assigned a unique DOI via CrossRef. |
Metadata Deposit | Machine-readable metadata is deposited in CrossRef and OAI repositories. |
Repository Submission | Content is submitted to repositories such as Portico, PKP PN, and institutional archives. |
Indexing Database Updates | Regular updates are sent to indexing bodies (Google Scholar, DOAJ, PubMed, etc.). |
Monitoring | Regular audits ensure that all content remains accessible and indexed. |
