Withdrawal Policy
The Journal of Clinical Advances in Dentistry (JCAD) recognizes that circumstances may arise where authors request to withdraw their manuscript or where published articles require correction, retraction, or replacement. This Withdrawal Policy ensures ethical handling of such cases in alignment with COPE guidelines and international standards.
Withdrawal Before Publication
Authors may request withdrawal of a manuscript during peer review if:
- They discover significant errors in data or analysis
- The work has been submitted inadvertently to another journal (duplicate submission is misconduct)
- Ethical concerns regarding authorship or content are identified
Authors must send a formal withdrawal request signed by all co-authors. Unilateral withdrawal without consent of co-authors is not permitted.
Withdrawal After Acceptance
Withdrawal after acceptance but prior to publication is considered only in exceptional cases. Authors may be required to cover processing charges to compensate for editorial and peer review resources already invested.
Post-Publication Corrections
If errors are identified after publication that do not invalidate the findings, corrections (errata or corrigenda) will be issued. The original article will remain accessible with a linked correction notice.
Retractions
Articles may be retracted if:
- Plagiarism, fabrication, or falsification of data is discovered
- Ethical misconduct or undisclosed conflicts of interest are confirmed
- Duplicate or redundant publication is identified
- Findings are invalidated due to serious methodological flaws
Retractions are clearly labeled and remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record.
Article Replacement
In rare cases where an article must be corrected substantially, authors may request replacement. The corrected version is published with clear reference to the original article and its withdrawal.
Withdrawal Charges
To discourage unethical withdrawal after acceptance, JCAD reserves the right to levy a withdrawal fee if no valid reason is provided. This fee helps recover administrative, editorial, and peer review costs.
Legal Removal
Articles may be removed for legal reasons, such as court orders, copyright violations, or defamation claims. A notice of removal will replace the withdrawn content.
Author Responsibilities
- Submit withdrawal requests with co-author consent
- Provide full justification for withdrawal or correction
- Avoid duplicate submissions to other journals during peer review
Editorial Responsibilities
- Assess withdrawal requests objectively
- Follow COPE flowcharts for misconduct cases
- Ensure transparency by publishing withdrawal, correction, or retraction notices
